The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Whitney Townsend will be joining the Foundation's Board of Directors in 2025 for a five-year term.  Townsend, Director of Business and Community Development at Fort Community Credit Union (FCCU), was nominated by the School District of Fort Atkinson and will be taking the seat of the Foundation’s 2024 Chairman, Sally Koehler.

"Whitney's passion for financial education and for the Fort Atkinson community will make her an outstanding Foundation director," stated Chairman Koehler.   "We are thrilled to have her joining our Board."

A dedicated community leader and financial empowerment advocate, Townsend earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2016. Since joining Fort Community Credit Union (FCCU) in 2018, she has taken on various roles, currently serving as the Director of Business and Community Development.  In this capacity, she has been instrumental in launching financial empowerment programs that have significantly benefited FCCU’s members. Under Townsend’s leadership, FCCU was recognized with the Governor’s Financial Literacy Award in 2023 for its outstanding efforts in promoting financial education.

In 2020, Townsend and her husband, Jose Mieses, donated building and school supplies to a school in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, which marked the beginning of a long-term partnership aimed at building a new educational facility.

Townsend is also actively involved in the Fort Atkinson community, serving as a member of the Rotary Club of Fort Atkinson and a board member for the Badgerland After School Enrichment Program (BASE) for the past decade.  A 2019 graduate of the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce's Project Lead program, she has organized the Unity Project’s Fort Fall Fiesta for the past two years, furthering her mission to create an inclusive community where everyone can thrive.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation board,” said Townsend, “Fort Atkinson has always been a place I am proud to call home.”

The Community Foundation’s Board of Directors consists of five members, each serving a term of five years.  These volunteers are chosen for their community involvement and knowledge of the educational, cultural, civic, public, and charitable needs of the Fort Atkinson area.

Appointments to the Board are made, in turn, by the School District of Fort Atkinson, PremierBank as trustee, the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Atkinson Historical Society, and the Fort Atkinson City Council.  However, directors represent the community in general and do not represent or act as advocates of their respective appointing bodies.

Members of the Community Foundation’s 2025 Board of Directors are Chairman Lisa Caras, Vice Chairman Jim Schulenburg, Treasurer Bonnie Geyer, Secretary Robert Cassiday, and Director Whitney Townsend.  The Board of Directors is supported by the Foundation’s executive director, Megan Hartwick.
