ometimes our hardest job is just trying to connect our community with all the opportunities we have to offer. From trying to reach students about available scholarship opportunities and community grant cycle deadlines, to sharing information about completed projects in hopes to inspire new Fort Atkinson residents to champion their own projects.
Over the last 50 years, the way we share that information has definitely changed. While the Daily Jefferson County Union and local radio stations like 107.3 WSJY have been around since the beginning, new avenues of media like Facebook, Fort Atkinson Online and email newsletters have become an essential part of the way we get the word out and reach folks who may be looking for opportunities we can offer.
It may seem silly, but a simple 'like' and 'follow' on a page can mean they are visible to a whole new group of people. For us, that could mean potentially reaching a student with scholarship information that could make college tuition a little more attainable (or maybe even possible) or maybe just a person in our community seeing a project being championed by another 'normal' Fort resident will show them that anyone can make a difference with a good idea and a little elbow grease.
