AAUW Jane Shaw Knox Scholarship

The AAUW Jane Shaw Knox Scholarship Fund was established at the Foundation in 1987 in memory of Mrs. Knox, a charter member of our local AAUW-Wisconsin: Fort Atkinson Branch and a passionate supporter of higher education who had died earlier that year.

Sandra Bernhardt earned the first scholarship from the fund in 1988, receiving an award of $65.58.

Over the next 35 years, with good stewardship from AAUW, the Knox family, and our Foundation, the fund balance grew to $201,382, all the while having distributed over a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships to local women seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees. It is a long roster of women who have benefitted from this fund – and all of their awards were larger than Sandi’s!

Three AAUW scholarships - Second Chance, Jane Shaw Knox Undergraduate, and Jane Shaw Knox Graduate – are now accepting applications for the 2023-24 school year. They are available to women who are graduates of Fort Atkinson High School, Fort Atkinson residents or are employed in Fort Atkinson, and provide support for every level of post-secondary education. The application deadline is April 1st. For more information, visit the scholarship pages at www.fortfoundation.org
