The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation is pleased to award $12,000 in scholarships to four local students from its Jim and Lee Vance Scholarship Fund.    The Vance Scholarship Fund was established at the Foundation in 2015 thanks to a sizable bequest from the estate of the late Lee Vance. Working with her husband, Jim, Lee had planned to establish a fund at the Foundation that would provide scholarships for Fort Atkinson area students.   This is a unique scholarship fund in that, in addition to being residents of the Fort Atkinson area or graduates of Fort Atkinson High School, eligible students also must be either attending one of the colleges the Vances attended or pursing a degree in a field related to the Vances’ fields of study. Compas receives Knapp Scholarship

The Board of Directors of the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation is pleased to announce it has awarded a $3,000 Robert and Judith Knapp Scholarship to John Compas.   Compas, a 2015 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School, will be a senior this year at UW-Madison where he is double majoring in computer science and computer engineering. After graduating in May 2019, Compas hopes to combine the abstract problem-solving of computer science with his engineering training to pursue a career creating original products. He is especially interested in using his training to solve global problems and help communities in impoverished areas. The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation offers a number of scholarships for students who are already attending college. Continuing students should visit the Foundation’s website, www.fortfoundation.org, and follow the link to the scholarship pages. Here they can search for scholarships based on whether they are currently an undergraduate or graduate student. There are also scholarships for continuing vocational or technical school students. The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation is now accepting online applications for 36 different scholarships available to Fort Atkinson students. Some of these scholarships are open to students planning to pursue a post-secondary education at a vocational or technical school and four scholarships are designed exclusively for such students. Loren Gray to join Foundation Board of Directors

The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Loren Gray has been appointed to serve a five-year term on the organization’s Board of Directors, beginning in 2018.  He was nominated by the Fort Atkinson Historical Society and will be replacing Christopher Rogers who has completed his term and who will spend 2018 serving the board as past chairman. “We are pleased to welcome Loren to the Foundation’s Board of Directors,” declared Foundation Chairman Christopher Rogers. “Loren’s extensive community involvement and his background in finance will make him a valuable board member.” Gray, a 42-year resident of Fort Atkinson, retired from Jones Dairy Farm as their chief financial officer. Science Matters, a new scholarship being offered by the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation, is now available to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School, thanks to the kindness of the McHenry family of Fort Atkinson.  (Pictured here are two of the McHenry kids – Rebecca and Matt) The Science Matters Scholarship Fund was opened at the Community Foundation earlier this year by the McHenry family whose children all received scholarships from the Community Foundation upon graduating from Fort Atkinson High School. The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of a new scholarship fund to its portfolio. The David F. Veith Memorial Scholarship Fund, opened in memory of former Fort Atkinson High School teacher David Veith, will be offering a new Veith Performing Arts Scholarship to members of this year’s graduating class at Fort Atkinson High School. The scholarship will be available to graduating seniors who intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college, majoring in a performing arts or related field. Born and raised in Waterloo, Veith’s passion was teaching. He was a gentle and caring man and was devoted to seeking equality for all people. Fort Scholarships, the online scholarship application website sponsored by the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation, is now open and accepting applications for the 2018 scholarship season. Local students will find Fort Scholarships to be a very convenient one-stop shop where they can review the eligibility requirements for a whole host of local scholarships and then apply for those for which they qualify.
